We are proud of what we do here at Team Modeshift and what makes us really proud is celebrating your success. Big or small, we want to hear about achievements that demonstrate best practice, innovation, and can prove a positive impact on active and sustainable travel.

Each year we invite our Members and Partners to nominate initiatives they have been involved with, or that have been undertaken in their area.

Cathie Friar Rising Star Award

This award was first given to a Modeshift Member at our Team Modeshift National Sustainable Travel Awards in November 2024. The award is in remembrance of Cathie Friar, a former staff member and professional in our industry. Cathie worked in our industry for over 20 years, spending the majority of her time at East Riding Of Yorkshire Council. Cathie would always go above and beyond, working tirelessly to achieve results with her schools, as she successfully increased levels of safe walking and cycling to school. Cathie was the winner of several accolades including our own national awards for delivering excellence and bringing about positive change for schools, children, families and communities.

Cathie announced her retirement from East Riding Of Yorkshire in 2020 before joining Modeshift. She immediately made an impact, elevating our organisation and contributing to our growing success. Cathie retired from Modeshift at the start of 2024 and she sadly passed away later that summer.

In recognition of Cathie Friar, our Rising Star Award was created to honour her legacy and inspire new and young professionals within the industry.
