Awards 2022

This award recognises and celebrates the efforts being made by individuals and groups to work in partnership with education providers, businesses and community groups, to promote and encourage active and sustainable travel.

Winner: Safer Active Travel Campaign – Central Bedfordshire, Bedford Borough, Luton, Bedfordshire Police and crime Commissioner

Finalists:

• Dockless Cycle Hire Provision – Islington Council, Tier, Human Forest & Lime
• Lewisham School Streets – London Borough of Lewisham, Project Centre, Marston Holdings including Videalert, NSL and Conways
• Essex County Council E Scooter Trials – Essex County Council, Spin, Tier

This award recognises budget busting projects and initiatives that have cost less than £1,000.

Winner –  Active Travel Elves Advent – London Borough of Ealing, Living Streets, Derbyshire County Council

Finalists:

• NHS Castle Hill E-Bike demo day – East Riding of Yorkshire Council
• All About the Bike – Islington Council
• Big Walk and Wheel launch – Malton Community Primary School, North Yorkshire County Council

This award recognises projects and initiatives for business travel, developed by individuals and groups to promote and encourage active and sustainable travel. Projects can include those that involve multi-stranded elements of sustainable travel, e.g. Green Travel Weeks.

Winner – Suffolk E-Cargo Bike Trails – Suffolk Council Council

• TfWM and the WMMA Active Travel Fund – WMCA – Transport for West Midlands

This award recognises projects and initiatives for travel in communities, developed by individuals and groups to promote and encourage active and sustainable travel. Projects can include those that involve multi-stranded elements of sustainable travel, e.g. Green Travel Weeks.

Winner – Essex Pedal Power – Essex County Council

Finalists:

• Climate Awareness Train – Essex County Council
• Islington School Streets Programme: environmental improvements at Amber Primary School
• Community Engagement for Semi-Rural Car Clubs – Smarter Travel Limited

This award recognises projects and initiatives for travel to and between education providers, developed by individuals and groups to promote and encourage sustainable travel. Projects can include those that involve multi-stranded elements of sustainable travel, e.g. Green Travel Weeks.

Winner – Living Streets’ Walk to School Outreach Programme – Living Streets

Finalists:

• The Green Travel Tree – East Riding of Yorkshire Council Road safety Team
• Westgate Primary School engagement with Leeds City Council’s School Streets Scheme
• TfWM Youth Forum – TfWM

This award recognises teams that have made a significant contribution to sustainable travel locally or nationally.

Winner – Anthony Aguda and Hannah Todman Active Travel Champions – Hatton Park Primary School

Finalists:

• Active Travel Team – Essex County Council
• Feet First: Walking Training Programme; Walking Instructors for Surrey County Council – Surrey County Council Safer Travel Team
• My Journey Wokingham

This award recognises projects and initiatives developed by any Team Modeshift member, be that an individual, team, or organisation within education, business, or community settings, to promote and encourage active travel.  Projects can include all active travel modes including walking, cycling, and scooting.

Winner – E-Cycle Switch – City of York Council

Finalists:

• The School Streets Scheme – East Riding of Yorkshire Council Road Safety Team
• LTN STARS Booster Pack – London Borough of Islington
• Transport Planning Team – Darlington Borough Council

This is a new ‘outstanding achievement award’ that will be presented to any type of organisation e.g. local authority, business, etc that has demonstrated outstanding commitment to promote sustainable travel over the previous 12 months.  It is a special award for which organisations can’t be nominated, rather the Modeshift Executive Board discuss and identify organisations that we feel are deserving of the award.

Winner – Transport for West Midlands 

This award is a new ‘outstanding achievement award’ that will be presented to an individual who has demonstrated outstanding commitment to promote sustainable travel over a number of years. It is a special award for which individuals can’t be nominated, rather the Modeshift Executive Board discuss and identify candidates that we feel are deserving of the award.
