This award recognises budget busting projects and initiatives that have cost less than £1,000. Nominations will be accepted from organisations that have made a contribution of less than £1,000 to deliver a successful sustainable travel project or initiative. Working on a low budget, you have to negotiate and work with ‘who you know…’ therefore any ‘payment in kind’, sponsorship or other financial contribution could be used to ‘start up’ the project and does not need to be included in the £1,000. However, the contribution will need to be detailed in the nomination and must show how the project will be sustained without the additional support.

In 2020, Mott MacDonald was appointed as a strategic Travel Demand Management (TDM) advisor to the Department for Transport and provided TDM support to English local authorities throughout the COVIE-19 pandemic, to help to get pupils back to education within the constraint of reduced public transport capacity.  The programme was then extended to enable support to be provided for the return of commuter and leisure trips as COVID restrictions eased.
