We’re excited to introduce James Taylor, who joins the Modeshift Board in the brand-new Early Professionals Executive role. This position has been created to give a stronger voice to those at the start of their careers in travel planning, ensuring they feel connected, supported, and part of the wider Team Modeshift community from day one.
James brings both passion and hands-on experience from his work across the West Midlands, and he’s keen to use this role to help others find their feet in the sector, just as Modeshift once supported him.
James told us:
‘I am delighted to be taking on the role as Early Professionals Executive because I know what it’s like to be new to travel planning – full of enthusiasm but unsure where to start. Modeshift has been a huge support to me early in my career and I wanted to help extend that same welcome to others. My aim is to create space for early professionals to connect, learn, and grow in confidence, whether that’s through networking, training, or simply having someone to ask questions. I will aim to make sure that new voices are heard and supported and that people feel part of Team Modeshift from the very beginning of their time as a travel planner.’
James is the Senior Officer – Travel Planning at Coventry City Council and leads on reviewing and monitoring travel plans submitted through the planning process, coordinate the Mobility Credits residential behaviour change scheme, and deliver sustainable travel initiatives with schools, businesses, and venues. He’s worked in travel planning and road safety education roles in local authorities across the West Midlands since 2021. His first role at Warwickshire County Council involved supporting schools with their travel plans and helping to oversee the School Crossing Patrol Service. In 2024, he joined Shropshire Council where he designed a new road safety education programme for schools and colleges, delivered Modeshift STARS travel plans, and assisted in the launch of the School Streets programme there.

A little more about James:
‘Outside of work I enjoy walking and going on hikes with our little sausage dog Chester. If I’m not walking (or being walked by the dog!) I can be found running and swimming or with my eyes to the skies as I have a real interest in aviation. I’m also a keen reader and can lose hours to my books or Kindle.’
Welcome to #TeamModeshift James!
