A natural experimental study of new walking and cycling infrastructure across the United Kingdom
Using different types of data the programme investigate how context is associated with change in use of new and upgraded walking and cycling infrastructure, and the association between infrastructure use and overall physical activity.
Highlights include:
- New walking and cycling routes were associated with increases in users.
- Low baseline level of users was associated with large relative increase in use.
- Use of the routes was associated with meeting physical activity guidelines.
- Combining evaluation methods provides additional insights into effectiveness.
