Paul Hamilton

Position: Modeshift Stars System Specialist

Year joined Modeshift: May 2024

Career history:  My background is predominantly Information Technology and data analysis based with my first role being in IT support and then Support manager at Darlington Memorial Hospital back in the days when computer screens where referred to as Green (not an Eco reference!).  I then had various roles mainly related to data analysis working across the UK and overseas working for small consultancies and then larger private business systems providers including Capita PLC and more recently working as Technical Services Sales Manager for One Advanced Software.  After being made redundant from this role during Covid we decided to take the leap and started a home care service looking after elderly people helping them retain their independence living in their own homes.  Whilst this was a complete change for me, it was extremely rewarding and satisfying seeing the positive impact good care could bring to people in our area and their families

Why did you join Team Modeshift? I started looking for a new role and was fortunate to find a technical role that suited me and my skill set where I felt I could make a positive contribution.  I feel privileged to work with people who are all pulling in the same direction and are passionate about encouraging Active Travel across the UK.  Early days but I feel that I am getting to grips with the Modeshift ethos and the Stars system.

Outside of Modeshift:

I am married to my long suffering wife Jo of 31 years and we have a son name Will who has just finished University and has just started a new role as a Business Manager for a Diabetes treatment company.

When not working, I enjoy walking our 3 cocker spaniels (Maisie, Willow and Isla) and trying to keep in shape with visits to the gym.  I also enjoy travel and if I was to pick a stand out holiday it would be Lake Garda and Verona.

Active travel is a topic that I was not particularly aware of before applying for and starting this role but I am now noticing every mention of active or Eco friendly travel in the media and in my local area and questioning and challenging my own behaviour towards travel and the ‘Car Brain’ trap.
