These Awards champion the best of the best! An inspiring mix of individuals, schools, business settings, healthcare organisations, and residential developments who are all dedicated to enhancing everyday journeys and enabling more people to walk, wheel, cycle, and use public transport.
STARS Healthcare National Site of the Year
The STARS Healthcare scheme launched in July 2024, and we now have 113 sites nationally with STARS Healthcare accreditation.
Modeshift STARS National Travel Awards 25/26
Nominee: Birmingham Children’s Hospital, Birmingham City Council
This city centre-based children’s hospital is a leading UK specialist paediatric centre, offering expert care to over 90,000 patients. They work hard to promote active travel to staff, patients, and visitors. They run a monthly working group and have completed 17 initiatives on STARS, including a bus promotion for staff with a 4-week free bus ticket, regular cycling proficiency sessions, and a bike salary sacrifice scheme. Recent staff surveys show an increase in active travel and a car use reduction of 2%.
Nominee: Birmingham Women’s Hospital, Birmingham City Council
Birmingham Women’s hospital is a centre of excellence, providing specialist services to more than 50,000 women and their families. The site has delivered 12 initiatives using STARS to improve staff, patient, and visitor travel. Initiatives include regular Dr. Bike sessions and a weekly ‘green Wednesday’ article shared on the staff intranet to promote active travel. Modal shift of site staff is monitored using STARS, and recent survey results have shown a reduction in car use and an increase active travel for work.
Nominee: Leicester Royal Infirmary, Leicestershire County Council
Leicester Royal Infirmary has worked hard for several years to deliver a range of active and sustainable travel opportunities for staff, patients, and visitors. Live journey planning is available on the site’s website, as well as public transport and cycling information. 38 travel initiatives have been introduced with the hospital achieving an Excellent level accreditation. Recent travel surveys show high levels of active travel, with 25% of staff travelling by bus, 5% by bike, 3% by car share, and 10% choosing to walk.
