Peddle My Wheels is a social enterprise on a mission to make cycling accessible to everyone. Working in partnership with local authorities and community organisations since 2014, the company runs a range of initiatives designed to remove barriers to cycling.
These include OurBike, the UK’s largest community e-cargo bike share scheme; Try Before You Bike, which lets people and businesses try a bike before committing to buy—providing insurance, accessories, support, and everything needed to get started; second-hand bike markets that promote affordable, sustainable cycling; as well as social prescribing and recycling projects, and a network of Active Travel Community Influencers inspiring others to ride. Together, these programmes create healthier, greener, and more connected communities.
What’s your best product or service and why?
Our two flagship products are the OurBike community cargo bike share scheme and the Try Before You Bike subscription-to-ownership scheme. OurBike stands as the UK’s largest cargo bike share scheme, effectively addressing the significant barriers of affordability and storage associated with cargo bike ownership. Try Before You Bike is specifically designed to align with council budgets and meet their monitoring and evaluation requirements. Over 80% of London councils have funded this scheme in their boroughs, and since its launch, more than 6,000 individuals have utilized it to start cycling.
What are you working on now and what’s next?
We are currently focused on expanding both OurBike and Try Before You Bike beyond London. Our initial OurBike locations outside the capital have launched in Essex and Norfolk, and the first “outside of London” Try Before You Bike scheme commenced in Solihull in 2025.
What do you like about being a Modeshift Partner?
The most valuable aspect of our Modeshift partnership is the community and the collaborative environment it fosters. It enables us to engage in constructive, relaxed, and honest conversations with councils, which is a welcome change from the typical “sales-type” atmosphere often found at less people-focused events and organisations.
