Carla Leowe

Position: London Region Executive

Year joined the Modeshift Board: 2023

Place of work: Westminster City Council

Why did you join the Modeshift Board: I have been fortunate enough to be provided with the opportunity to support the board for the London Region moving into 2024 after being the Associate Member for London since 2022. I look forward to supporting Modeshift and its members in the coming months.

Career history: I have over 18 years of experience working in active travel and road safety via local government settings. My journey began in formal and youth education settings, then moved over to work directly for the London Borough of Newham in 2006 supporting active travel and road safety education.

In 2012, I moved across to Westminster City Council as a Road Safety Officer where I reside in my current role.

During this period,  I have also served on the London Road Safety Council as an Executive Committee Member from October 2018 to July 2023. Been awarded Honorary Modeshift Member in November 2020 and London Associate Member for Modeshift in 2022 to 2023.

Personal: I have always walked everywhere from a young age and was encouraged to do so at any opportunity, whether that be school, to the shops or longer journeys to different parks and areas. My mum said to me that you can take in more around you if you walk and do it at your own pace. This still holds true for me now.
