Catherine McCoy

Position: STARS Education Representative

Year joined the board: 2024

Work:  South Gloucestershire Council

Career history:

I have worked within the environmental sector since leaving university, first as a researcher for a remedial contaminated land company, followed by The Environment Agency where I held several roles including Policy Briefing Co-ordinator Information Officer and Events Officer. I then moved to local authority and worked as the Waste Minimisation Officer for North Somerset Council for 7 years before becoming a freelancer and then a teacher of Geography.  My active travel journey started in 2016 where I worked for Living Streets as a Project Co-ordinator in South Gloucestershire working with schools encouraging walking to school before gaining my current role as Lead Road Safety Officer for Sustainable Travel at South Gloucestershire in 2021.

Why did you join the Modeshift Board?

Modeshift STARS is key to our strategy of encouraging more children to walk, scoot and cycle to school in South Gloucestershire so when the opportunity presented itself to work with and support Team Modeshift as the STARS Education Representative I was delighted to join the Board. Modeshift has a real impact on children’s lives from improving their health and well-being to making outside their school gates safer and reducing air pollution and the effects of climate change and I am passionate about helping create that positive impact, both as a board member and in my role at South Gloucestershire.

Outside of Modeshift:

I love all things active and outdoors including walking, cycling, swimming, gardening, camping, and kayaking. Also love music and going to gigs, watching movies and having a cold GnT with friends and family.
