Jon Foley
Position: Events and Venues Executive
Year joined the Modeshift Board: September 2024
Place of work: London, UK
Why did you join the Modeshift Board: Behaviour change and use of sustainable and active travel remains a matter that is not given the priority it deserves nationally (and internationally). This is true generally and also more specifically in the area of spectator and audience travel. I wish to be part of supporting our members and this sector in delivering high quality and consistent work in this area and ensuring the work area remains a high priority on the national (and international) agenda across the sport, arts, culture and live entertainment sector.
Career history: I have worked in transport planning for over 30 years (good grief) both in the public sector as an employee of numerous local authorities in the UK, as a consultant working for Steer, MVA/Systra and Buro Happold and since 2014 as the co-owner and co-founder of In the Round. The focus of much of my work has been around behaviour change including travel planning but in more recent times travel demand management notably on large scale sport events including FIFA Football Work Cups, Rugby World Cups and Commonwealth Games. We’ve also done some smaller scale work on cultural events including the National Eisteddfod of Wales.
Personal: When not working I love spending time with my family, the dog and friends. I am a fanatical Welsh rugby fan, enjoy (trying) to keep fit including still playing football on a weekly basis plus distance running. I am fortunate to be able to travel to different parts of the world for work and play and love being able to experience different cultures when I do so. We spend as lot of time in Australia as that’s where my partner is from!
