This rapid review used a systematic and transparent approach to select 30 articles for relevance and methodological rigour.
It aimed to answer the following questions:
- What is the effect of interventions encouraging people to switch from using cars to using public transport or active transport?
- Which groups are most likely to switch, and to what forms of transport?
- Is there evidence of unintended consequences of interventions to encourage mode shift?
This rapid evidence assessment was undertaken by NatCen Social Research on behalf of the Department for Transport.
