School hosts ‘Active Travel June’ event

St Peter’s School in York are showing their commitment to our Active Travel Ambassador (ATA) programme by hosting a whole month of active travel activity this June.

The students have designed their own active travel characters and developed campaign marketing materials to use in the school community. Each character has a sticker that the students who opt to use their method of active travel receives, in exchange for rewards. Today in the form of bacon butties, fruit and yoghurts at an Active Breakfast! The stickers are added to a house chart with the winning house receiving an ice cream reward at the end of the June challenge.

Active Travel June is just one of the ideas from the team who are committed to changing behaviors. They have a car share app where registrations have gone from 27 to 177 this month alone!Posters on school railings, school in background. Bike propped up against railing.

Our ATA programme provides young people aged 11 upwards with the confidence and skills to address transport issues affecting their school community. With support from an ATA Coordinator and school staff, ATA teams research and develop behaviour change campaigns, focusing on active travel and road safety.

St Peter’s are in their first year of the ATA programme and have Modeshift STARS Approved Accreditation.
