ATE Engagement Webinar: Spotlight on Expanding the Greenway Network in Buckinghamshire

Wednesday 17 April, 2pm-2.45pm

Join Rebecca Dengler-Jones, Jonathan Fuller and Benjamin Feeney-North from Buckinghamshire Council as they provide an overview of Buckinghamshire’s Greenway vision and how it’s being developed and delivered with the involvement of local communities.

Buckinghamshire is a predominantly rural authority, with expansive flat countryside mixed with the hilly Chilterns AONB. With an abundance of villages and dispersed settlements, Buckinghamshire Council has a vision to deliver a network of Greenways (off-road rural active travel routes) to help link its communities to employment, education and key transport links and leisure and tourism opportunities.

Find out how the authority is starting to develop a more sustainable approach to Greenways ensuring local involvement and ownership and delivering initiatives using funding secured through the Active Travel England Capability Fund. They will discuss how through a blend of educating, influencing and activating, the Greenway vision is starting to become a reality, with sections of the Buckinghamshire Greenway spine already partly delivered which will eventually span the length of the county.

The webinar will be hosted on Microsoft Teams and is designed for local authority employees and those who work with local authorities to deliver active travel schemes, including professionals in transport, highways, communications and planning roles. We invite you to share this with your networks in these groups. Sign up here.

ATE Engagement Webinar: Spotlight on Diversity and Inclusion in Cycling

Tuesday 23 April 2024, 11am-11.45am

Join Sarah Javaid MBE, Founder and CEO of Cycle Sisters and Shameem Dukandar, Group Coordinator and Ride Leader in the Cycle Sisters Newham group, as they share their learnings about how to meaningfully engage with under-represented communities, challenging preconceived ideas about groups being “hard to reach”.

The session will provide an opportunity to reflect on what role attendees can play in collectively addressing inequalities and ensuring that inclusion and diversity are centralised in active travel planning and spending.

Cycle Sisters has been successfully supporting Muslim women and girls to cycle for the past seven and a half years.

Sarah Javaid MBE is the founder and CEO of Cycle Sisters, an award-winning cycling charity for Muslim women operating across London. Sarah is also a National Standards Instructor and British Cycling Ride Leadership Tutor and has supported hundreds of women to start cycling through cycle lessons and led rides. Shameem Dukandar is a volunteer Group Coordinator and Ride Leader for the Cycle Sisters Newham group and has recently trained as a National Standards Instructor.

The webinar will be hosted on Microsoft Teams and is designed for local authority employees and those who work with local authorities to deliver active travel schemes, including professionals in transport, highways, communications and planning roles. Sign up here.
