At BAP Pharma, based at Global Business Park Buckinghamshire, staff travel was once a simple matter of driving to work and back. But as the company’s commitment to environmental and social responsibility grew, so did its ambition to rethink how people get around, both to work and during the working day.
Earlier this year, BAP Pharma joined the Modeshift STARS programme to help make everyday journeys easier for staff, while reducing their reliance on cars.
Turning ideas into action
Margaret, BAP Pharma’s Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Lead, knew there were opportunities to improve travel options, but also recognised the value of a structured plan.
‘Modeshift STARS helped us turn ideas into a clear and realistic plan. It’s made our goals easier to communicate, and something we can proudly share with our clients and colleagues.’

With support from Buckinghamshire Council, the team developed a travel plan focused on practical steps that help staff consider realistic, different ways of getting around, without pushing cars out completely.
What’s happening on site
Despite limited public transport links, BAP Pharma has taken creative steps to support staff and reduce car use where possible:
- Lockers and showers have been installed to make cycling and walking more comfortable
- The BetterPoints app is now in use, offering rewards for lower-carbon travel choices
- A bike loan scheme is in the works, designed to make short trips during the day easier without jumping in a car
- Staff can use a shuttle service to Maidenhead, supporting train travel
- A recent Clean Air Day sparked conversation around commuting habits
- The team is part of the Bucks Eco Driving Programme, helping reduce emissions from necessary vehicle use
Making an Impact
One of the biggest changes so far? Staff are starting to think differently. There’s growing interest in how travel can be more efficient and less car-dependent, and even early conversations about campaigning for improved public transport to the business park.
Modeshift STARS has helped the organisation bring all of these efforts together under one plan, giving the work structure and weight, both internally and externally.
What’s Next
With the bike loan scheme set to launch later this summer, BAP Pharma is continuing its journey to make everyday travel easier, more thoughtful, and better for the environment.
The business is also encouraging others in the area to take a fresh look at how they support staff travel and how small, practical steps can make a big difference.
