We’re delighted to introduce Lou Millington, Anne Faulkner, and John Bryers, who have recently joined Modeshift as Active Travel Ambassador Coordinators. Together, they bring a wealth of experience, passion, and creativity to the team, helping us inspire the next generation of young people to choose active and sustainable everyday journeys.
Meet Lou Millington, Active Travel Ambassador Coordinator (North East)
Lou joined Modeshift in July 2025 and is based in the North East. Before joining us, she worked as a Project Officer at Sustrans in Gateshead, encouraging primary school pupils to make active journeys. From air pollution walks and Big Street Surveys to bike maintenance classes, Lou has a track record of tailoring activities to schools’ needs and making a real difference.
Lou says she joined Modeshift because:
‘I believe in Modeshift’s mission. I am committed to removing barriers to active travel, especially for young people whose journeys start to become more independent.’
Outside of work, Lou keeps active playing tag rugby, running, and walking the coast with friends. She’s also passionate about music and can often be found at concerts, gigs, or musicals.
Meet Anne Faulkner, Active Travel Ambassador Coordinator (South-West)
Anne joined Modeshift in June 2024 and has spent much of her career as a Ranger in parks and open spaces, running events, conservation projects, and environmental education sessions. She has also worked as a Bikeability Instructor and Breeze Leader, encouraging more women to take up cycling.
Anne says she joined Modeshift because:
‘In all the jobs I do I strive to have a positive influence and change people’s perceptions and actions for the better. I feel working for Modeshift will have a positive benefit for all, improving young people’s lives and health and helping them to discover the great outdoors.’
Outside of Modeshift, Anne enjoys paddle boarding, cycling, jogging, ceramics, and walking with her family — including her boxer dog, Willow.
Meet John Bryers, Active Travel Ambassador Coordinator (West Midlands)
John joined Modeshift in June 2025 and brings experience from both Further Education, where he supported SEND students, and the music industry, where he worked as a performer, technician, and sales assistant. A lifelong advocate for active travel, John describes himself as someone who jumped, ran, biked, and skated at the chance to join Modeshift!
John says he joined Modeshift because:
‘I’ve always used active travel as my primary mode of transport. This role gives me the chance to help shift our culture towards one where active travel is the norm.’
When he’s not working, John can be found on two wheels, whether it’s bikepacking, gravel racing, or touring. He also plays string instruments, practices yoga, and loves spending time outdoors.
A Warm Welcome to the Team
We’re thrilled to have Lou, Anne, and John join Team Modeshift and can’t wait to see the positive impact they’ll have supporting schools and young people across their regions. Welcome aboard!
