We have been interviewing our newly re-structured Modeshift Staff Team to find out more about who they are, their roles and how they are involved in sustainable travel.  Our fourth interview is with Modeshift’s Best Practice & Events Specialist Sarah Fay.

How long have you been involved in Sustainable Travel?

I started my journey in the sustainable and active travel world in 2009, working on Middlesbrough Councils ‘Healthy Towns’ project.  After a fab few years dressing up in various costumes for Walk to School events, I moved on to manage Durham County Councils ‘Local Motion’ project, then moved on to the private sector to manage the delivery of the STARS South Yorkshire project.  And just like that, 12 years later, I’m here!

When did you join Modeshift?

I joined the Modeshift Management Board in 2010 and held the position of North East, Yorkshire & Humber Regional Rep for 5 years.  I started my new role as Modeshift’s Customer Best Practice and Events Specialist at the beginning of May and am loving being part of the core delivery team.

What do you like most about being part of Team Modeshift?

Being part of something that is genuinely trying to make a positive difference to people’s lives and the planet’s health. In its broadest sense I see Team Modeshift as running to the many thousands, perhaps millions, of people when you count all the pupils and staff of organisations signed up to Modeshift STARS. That is a lot of potential for positive change.

What do you like most about being part of Team Modeshift?

I absolutely love how passionate everyone within Team Modeshift is about our common cause of promoting sustainable and active travel, and hearing the new and innovative ways schools, workplaces and community groups go about engaging their audiences and pushing their message is fab!

What are you working on now and what’s coming up?

My key focus is getting hold of information and creating case studies to showcase all of the amazing work Team Modeshift are delivering; there is so much going on across all sectors involved in Modeshift and I want to share it far and wide.  I am also busy arranging training sessions for Local Authorities, and planning our national convention, business conference and schools awards.

What’s been your proudest moment at Modeshift?

Seeing the organisation going through some tough times and coming out the other end bigger and stronger than ever.  The growth that Modeshift has achieved is outstanding and I’m super proud to be part of Team Modeshift.

Tell us a fun fact about you

I can do a bit of Irish dancing, I love nothing more than a good Spin session and my favourite place to be is outside; the back garden, at the seaside, in forest – as long as there’s fresh air, you’ll find me there!
