Leicester-based sustainable travel consultancy, Go Travel Solutions, recently made a cash donation of £4,530 to The Bike Project, a charity that takes in second-hand bikes, refurbishes them and donates them to refugees and asylum seekers in London and the West Midlands.
Go Travel Solutions made this donation from their end of year profits as part of their ongoing commitment to benefiting people and planet.
Robin Pointon, Managing Director of Go Travel Solutions, commented “We asked members of our team to suggest a charity to receive our annual donation which aligns with our sustainable ethos. This year, The Bike Project was the charity of choice, and we are delighted that our donation will be used to bring cycles to refugees as a mode of transport and freedom.”
The Bike Project believe that no one should have to choose between eating a square meal and catching the bus. Many asylum seekers are trying to navigate the complex asylum process on less than £6 a day and are prohibited from working. That’s where bikes can help, linking people to essential services and the community in a free and sustainable way. Alongside refurbishing and donating second-hand bikes, The Bike Project also run several programmes to build cycling skills, confidence, and community.
The Bike Project have given almost 10,000 bikes since starting in 2013 with ever increasing demand for their services. The donation from Go Travel Solutions will fund 45 refurbished bikes for refugees and asylum seekers.
