PWLC Projects help Redbridge Council to secure the funding for the ‘School Super Zone’ Project!

Following a successful ‘School Super Zone’ bid written for Redbridge Council, PWLC have secured nearly £30k of funding from the GLA Health & Wellbeing Team for a Loxford school.

PWLC Projects are proud to have been able to help Redbridge to secure the funding for the ‘School Super Zone’ Project at Uphall Primary School, near Ilford Lane. The project will work with pupils to create a healthier and safer place for children and young people to live, learn and play.

Uphall Primary is situated in less affluent neighbourhood in the borough, with more challenges around healthy pupil weight. Taking a holistic approach to pupils’ wellbeing, target activities will include:

– Pupils’ wellbeing and air quality workshops, including action on car engine idling outside the school gates.
– Promoting the Healthy Catering Commitment to local fast-food outlets to improve the local food environment.
– Improving access to local greenspaces, supporting all young people to be physically active.

The project will support Uphall Primary School to achieve accreditation through the Healthy Schools and Eco Schools schemes, Transport for London’s STARS accreditation and the UNICEF Rights Respecting Schools Award.

Cllr Blackman, Cabinet Member for Environment and Civic Pride, said, “The improvements we are looking for in reduced childhood obesity, cleaner air and safer communities will not take place overnight.

“At the same time, this project has clear outcomes to help indicate if we are moving in the right direction. By working closely with key partners, we’ve got a real chance to see what activity might make the most significant difference to the health and wellbeing of the children”.
