The winners of the Modeshift Sustainable Travel Award for excellence in walking 2021 have taken their ‘a mile in my shoes’ project one step further to raise funds to support Ukraine.

On Friday 8 April parents, members of the local community, local dignitaries and other supporters were invited to join pupils at Ladywood Primary school in Derbyshire to walk the daily mile as part of a fund raising effort in support of the British Red Cross Ukraine Crisis Appeal.

With tombola prizes, cakes sales, face painting, sunflower seedlings for sale and Erewash Sound radio broadcasting live from the school the event raised an amazing £827.

Amanda Speake, Learning Mentor at Ladywood Primary said, “The success of our “a mile in ‘their’ shoes” event has left me lost for words. The community spirit of Kirk Hallam was just unbelievable. A huge thank you to everyone, your support has been overwhelming!”
