This week you can find out about our newest Board Member Claire Fleming, Modeshift’s STARS Business Representative.
Position: STARS Business Representative
Year joined the Board: 2021
Place of work: Swindon Borough Council, Travel Plan Officer since September 2008
Brief career history: I previously worked for BBC Radio Nottingham as a freelance presenter and fell into the world of sustainable transport by setting up the Nottingham Travelwise Centre for Nottingham City Council in the late 1990s.
Why did you join the Modeshift Management Board: I was an early adopter of the Modeshift Starsfor system for our residential and workplace sites in Swindon, and was keen to help shape the development of the system going forward.
I am a firm believer in officers across local authorities sharing their best practice on both regional and national stages, and value the networking that an organisation such as Modeshift can bring.
Outside of Modeshift: I have been writing stories since I was in junior school, and in 2014 published my first novel. I am now writing novel number four in my spare time. They don’t pay the bills but provide much needed escapism! More details can be found about these at www.cfleming.co.uk.
I also got into wine following a friend’s wedding in Bordeaux and discovered that there were courses (and qualifications) in wine and spirits. I decided to get learning – you never know when you may need a career change – and now hold the WSET level 3 in wine and spirits
