Place of work:
London Borough of Haringey
What is your role within your organisation?
Active Travel and Health Officer, working within the Carbon Management Team, incorporating Travel Planning with schools, creating activities and delivering national active travel messages and campaigns and working to deliver School Streets.
How long have you been working in this industry?
I began my Haringey employment in 2006, progressing to the current role delivering the Smarter Travel Programme in 2011.
When did your Team Modeshift journey begin?
Haringey joined Modeshift in 2013. Attending the first meeting was inspiring. So much creativity and information to use. So many learning opportunities and support was priceless..
Why do you believe it is important to promote active and sustainable travel?
Everyone’s journey influences something. Promoting alternative active ways to get around is very important if we are going to have a world left for the next generations, and that they will be able to ‘actively’ take part in what this world has to offer.
What’s next, how do you plan on getting there, and by when?
My personal aim is that recognition is given to the importance of this work, so that we can embed it further into the ethos and training at every school. I would like to see this incorporated into the curriculum. Our children need to learn about their part in the world and that their actions now will and can make a difference. Reducing reliance on vehicles for the school run, builds physical and mental health too.
