Call for papers is now open for the London Walking and Cycling Conference 2022.

Deadline: Friday 4 March 2022, however early submissions are encouraged.

The London Walking and Cycling Conference will take place at Guildhall on Friday 10 June 2022.

If you are interested in speaking at the conference, and helping to shape the discussion about walking and cycling towards a fair and inclusive city, we would love to hear from you. Past conferences have attracted a wide range of industry professionals, campaigners and elected members and are a great opportunity to be heard, influence policy, and gain exposure for your ideas. Previous speakers have included Sadiq Khan, Mayor of London, Judith Bokhove, Vice Mayor for Mobility Rotterdam, London’s Walking and Cycling Commissioner, Will Norman, and academic and author of ‘Bad Science’, Dr Ben Goldacre. This year’s conference is set to host the widest range of sustainable transport experts yet.
There has never been a more pertinent time to discuss the need to make walking and cycling accessible to everyone. The theme of the 2022 conference will therefore be ‘walking and cycling towards a fair and inclusive city’. Possible topics for speakers include the following, although any topics in the wider context of sustainable transport are welcomed:

  • Creating public space and transport that is safe and supportive for women and girls
  • Projects and initiatives to increase active travel within ethnic minority communities
  • Adapting the transport system to be more inclusive and supportive for people with disabilities
  • The role of technology and innovation in developing inclusive mobility

We welcome papers from across the sector including campaigners, academics, local authority officers and other interested parties. We would especially like to welcome any new voices and fresh perspectives on how to make walking and cycling more inclusive. As well as case studies from London, we are seeking papers from outside of London and the UK, so that we can learn from experience in other contexts.

To submit a paper please fill out this Google FormWe are considering diverse formats, including standard presentations (of approximately 15 minutes followed by questions), PechaKucha, short videos and posters.

Nominated speakers will be notified by spring 2022. Speakers will be offered free entrance to the conference. Please feel free to forward this information to anyone who you think may be interested in submitting a paper.

Early-bird ticket sales for the event will go live in March 2022 via the LWCC 2022 Eventbrite Page.
