Cycle September #TeamModeshift style

It’s no secret that we’re passionate about active travel, which is why we took part in  Cycle September, hosted by Love to Ride.

The results are in!

Not only did we we come first in the National Leaderboards for our 7 – 19 Staff Category, we were the Global Winners for 7-19 staff as well! 🏆🌍

The challenge has a simple yet powerful goal – to inspire more people to experience the benefits of cycling. Whether it’s for commuting, leisure, or errands, participants can ride anywhere, anytime in September.

The woman on the left wears a bight pink cycle jacket and the man in the right a bright blue cycle jacket.  View from an exercise bike, between the handle bars a brown dog is laying on a cream carpet  Bicycle in propped up on railings outside a large grand white building with large windows, ornate columns and a flag pole.

Jenny Royall, our Active Travel Ambassador (ATA) Coordinator in the West Midlands, shared:

‘The combination of being a new member of Team Modeshift, Travelwise week and Love to Ride’s Cycle September has had a really positive impact on me. I already walked as much as I could, with a 10,000 steps a day target, but I’ve done a lot more cycling in September. The Love to Ride app tells me I’ve achieved a total of 23 rides, covering 87 miles.

This has included two recces to schools where I’ll be delivering ATA sessions and a trip to the supermarket as well as several rides just for “fun and fitness”. On the Friday morning of Travelwise week I cycled to work for the first time ever to deliver an ATA session in a school. It took far less time than it would have done on the bus and I managed to negotiate the school run traffic, passing three busy schools on the way. I’m really grateful for the encouragement of the team – to take part in the first place, for the competitiveness that got me on my husband’s wattbike when the weather was awful  (which has an unbelievably uncomfortable seat and is much harder work than exercise bikes at the gym) and for lots of high fives along the way.’

#TeamModeshift really delivered!

  • We covered a total of 1,117 miles across 300 rides.
  • We cycled 437 commute miles over 131 commute trips.
  • Our rides for transportation (replacing a car) saved 454LBs in CO2.
  • We encouraged 40 other people to either get back on their bikes or try cycling for the first time.
  • Shoutout to Emily, who rode on the most days—23 days total, closely followed by Steph with 22 days.
  • Steph also covered the most miles, totaling 156, with Executive Board Member, Claire Flemming coming a close behind with 113.
  • Steph  and Jason made the most trips, 40 each.
  • Another Executive Board Member, Emma Allen did the most miles riding to work, 77 miles in total!

We’ll be sharing more on those 40 people we encourage #TeamModeshift style to either get back on their bikes or try cycling for the first time.

Well done to the whole team for stepping up and making a real impact!
