Modeshift introduced an inspiring Active Travel Champion each week throughout Black History Month to celebrate every day people inspiring every day journeys.
A celebration of walking and cycling during Black History Month and beyond!
On our final week we meet Elijah, Active Travel Champion.
Tell us about you and your active journey?
My name is Elijah, I live in in London and I love walking to school and cycling for fun.
Where do you roll or stroll , how far is the journey and where do you go?
I walk to school and back every day which 15 minutes each way. I also walk to athletics and swimming twice a week. I cycle to Hackney on Saturdays to go to youth club which is about 30 minutes each way.
What motivates you to ride?
When I was a little Elijah, my mum would always let me cycle, scoot or walk to school. I’ve never really been driven to school. Driving to the school I go to now would actually take longer and is also bad for the environment. I love cycling to my youth club on Saturdays because I get to go through the Wetlands, marshes and along the river.
What words of encouragement or advice would you give someone to follow in your stride/ tyre tracks?
If you want to do it, then just do it.
