BetterPoints gives Sheffielders free bus and tram travel for Christmas

BetterPoints Sheffield launched on the 26 of September with the aim of inspiring healthier journeys across the city and a target of 5,000 users by the end of March 2024.

Since then, almost 6,000 Sheffielders have downloaded the free app and started earning BetterPoints which they can exchange for Sheffield City Centre Gift Cards, spend at 20 local cafes (including all of the University of Sheffield’s GeniUS outlets) or donate to local charities like foodbanks, The Children’s Hospital, Sheffield Cycling 4 All and the Sheffield and Rotherham Wildlife Trust.

By the end of November, BetterPoints Sheffield users had clocked up well over half a million sustainable trips, replacing over 300,000 car journeys and saving over a hundred tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.

Now BetterPoints are working in collaboration with Sheffield City Council, TravelMaster, First Bus and SYMCA to offer 10,000 free CityWide Day tickets in the run-up to Christmas. The tickets, which usually cost £5.90, are available for 50 BetterPoints – new users earn 100 for taking the short registration survey, so the tickets are available to anyone who signs up.

There’s been a great response so far, with Sheffielders claiming the tickets to head into the city centre by bus and tram for Christmas shopping and socialising.

Cllr Ben Miskell, Chair of the Transport, Regeneration and Climate Policy Committee said:

“Our changing city centre, along with other shopping areas across Sheffield, offer some fantastic places to shop, eat, meet up with friends, and enjoy the magic of Christmas. With this TravelMaster CityWide Day travel ticket, we are giving you yet another reason to come into the city centre at this special time of year.”
