Clean Air Day, 20 June 2024
Clean Air Day (CAD), the UK’s largest campaign on air pollution is happening on Thursday 20 June 2024.
Did you know that cars and vans are the biggest source of toxic chemicals in our air?Air pollution can harm every organ in your body, causing heart and lung disease, dementia, and strokes.
You may be exposed to higher levels of air pollution because of where you live – for example, if you live in a town or city, or near a busy road – and certain people are more vulnerable to its affects (including children, the elderly, and people with health conditions).
According to official data, cars and vans are the biggest contributor to greenhouse gas emissions and some types of air pollution in the UK.
This year, we’re supporting Clean Air Day with our Active Travel Ambassadors!
Schools across the country participating in our Active Travel Ambassadors programme have organised events to reduce congestion, improve air quality, and enhance safety for students and staff. By increasing the number of active and sustainable trips, they’re making a real difference. We’ll be sharing their activities on our social media channels, so stay tuned!
This #CleanAirDay and beyond, protect your health and the planet by walking, wheeling, cycling and using public transport when you can.
