Students from St Augustine’s Scarborough travelling to Northallerton

Rail operators support our Modeshift Active Travel Ambassadors programme

Northern Rail and Transpennine Express (TPE) have teamed up to support our Active Travel Ambassadors (ATA) programme by offering free rail travel for students attending events in North and East Yorkshire.

Last month, Harrogate Grammar School, Harrogate High School and St Augustine’s from Scarborough made their way to Northallerton for the The Modeshift Active Travel Ambassadors campaign Junction Event courtesy of Northern Rail and TPE.

Secondary schools across the country have been working through the Modeshift pilot ATA programme for several months. By working through the programme, students to get a better understanding of how young people travel to school and design their own campaign to address any issues found and encourage behaviour changes. The campaign junction event see’s the schools pitch their ideas to a panel of industry experts to secure £250 funding to help launch their campaign.

‘We had a great day taking part in the Modeshift ATA Campaign. Travelling to County Hall was kindly made possible by the generosity of Northern Rail and TPE.  The students loved getting the train! The station is located near to school and the journey was so easy. One year 7 students said, ‘I wish I could get the train every day, it’s so much fun and the views of Knaresborough from the railway bridge were amazing!’
