We have been interviewing our newly re-structured Modeshift Staff Team to find out more about who they are, their roles and how they are involved in sustainable travel. Our second interview is with Modeshift STARS Team Support, Cathie Friar.
How long have you been involved in Sustainable Travel?
I previously worked for both Humberside County Council and Hull City Council as part of the Public Transport team where we arranged both home to school and public transport
I then joined The East Riding of Yorkshire Council in June 2004 as a school travel plan advisor working with schools to put together their school travel plans and from there with schools working towards their Modeshift STARs accreditation awards.
When did you join Modeshift?
I joined Modeshift in September 2020.
What do you like most about being part of Team Modeshift?
The variety of the job, no two days are the same. The experience of everyone in the team, and the passion and commitment of everyone to promote sustainable travel.
What are you working on now and what’s coming up?
Being the admin contact it is very varied, from sending out invoices to arranging for the STARS certificates to be delivered. And looking forward, the STARS education awards events that are coming up, it is always good to celebrate the success.
What’s been your proudest moment at Modeshift?
Being asked to be part of the Modeshift TEAM.

I surprised myself by loving para gliding. I haven’t done it for a while, but the buzz you get if fabulous.
