Laura Wells, Principal Transport Planner at Brighton & Hove City Council
Laura will update on various projects in the city, from developing the new Local Transport Plan and first LCWIP, to behaviour change and e-cargo bike projects, the Active Travel Fund and the challenges of moving on from temporary cycle lanes.
Amanda Morris , Senior Travel Planner. Travel Planning Team at Hampshire County Council
Amanda will provide an insight into the areas the team covers (schools, workplaces and residential), Cycle Alton, school streets, Active Travel Fund, Inactive Adults campaign, BetterPoints pilot, and the challenges of delivering travel plans on behalf of developers.

Mark will consider recent work assessing walking to school routes / safety audits.
“A key part of School Travel Plans is facilitating walking and cycling to school. Under the Education & Inspections Act 2006 education authorities are obliged to provide free public transport for children living within 3 miles of their school (2 miles for primary schools) if there is not an “acceptable” available route.
This has generally been assessed using a process set out by Road Safety GB in 2016 which essentially only considers ; 1. Is there a footway? & 2. Is there a “step-off” ?
This is very simplistic and doesn’t take into account the development of better assessment tools as part of the LCWIP process, let along issues such as personal security and air quality.
Transport Initiatives recently carried out a study for Thurrock Council where we looked into these issues and used LCWIP tools to assess possible walking (and cycling) routes to school”
