Meet the Modeshift Team - Denise Adolphe

Modeshift Board MembersJob title: Active Travel and Health Manager at London Borough of Haringey

Modeshift Board Responsibility: Communications Officer

How long have you been with Modeshift? Since 2014.

If you could only choose to promote one way to travel, what would it be and why? I really love cycling, but I would have to choose walking because I love love love walking to work. It’s an hour and a half and 5.5 miles each way and it takes me through some beautiful marshes, over the canal and through some lovely quiet roads. It gives me time to think along the way, and sometimes I meet my colleague and we walk the last hour together which gives us time to have a good natter.

Tell us something we didn’t know about you? I was learning to roller skate but I was so rubbish at it that I haven’t been since March. I’m trying to work up the courage to go back.

What’s your biggest work achievement to date? Every year since 2013 I have organised our Saddle and Sole Festival of Walking and Cycling with Hackney and Islington Council. It’s a fantastic event which this year was attended by over 2000 people, giving them the chance to take part in cycle rides, cycle training, get a free bike service, fun walks, orienteering and much more.

What do you do for fun? I love visiting different places with the children. This year we haven’t had the funds to go abroad so we have just come back from a lovely holiday in Bournemouth, which my 7 year old son said was the best holiday ever. I’m also planning to take them to Warwick Castle later in the month which they have never been to before.
