Meet the Modeshift Team - Sarah Grattage

Modeshift Board MembersJob title: School Travel Adviser, Stoke-on-Trent City Council

Modeshift Board Responsibility: Vice-Chair - Schools

How long have you been with Modeshift? Two and a half years.

If you could only choose to promote one way to travel, what would it be and why? Walking – it is the most accessible form of transport. You need very little training and no expensive equipment. Everyone is a pedestrian at some point during their day/week but not many people see themselves as ‘walkers’.

Tell us something we didn’t know about you? In a previous life I used to train volunteers in conservation activities, so I am more than capable of building a dry stone wall and I have a chainsaw licence!

What’s your biggest work achievement to date? A couple of years ago I worked with Living Streets on a very successful Car Free Day campaign, spanning a week of intensive interventions. This resulted in a number of STARS accreditations and prompted our trial of Park & Stride locations in partnership with Parking. Parents will be able to park on council owned facilities as long as they have a permit from the school.

What do you do for fun? I am a bit of a thrill seeker and love nothing more than a good rollercoaster (as long as it doesn’t spin!). My children share this passion and we are often found on Smiler as Alton Towers! I also do Kick boxing once a week to keep fit.
