David Shannon: Greater London Regional Representative
I am the Active Travel Manager for Islington Council, an inner city London borough. I have been working in sustainable travel for more than 10 years, starting out as a cycle trainer, so I have known first-hand how transformational it is for individuals to become independent travellers.
In addition to managing in-house delivery of cycle training, my work areas now include School Streets, STARS, bike hangars and cycle share. I am the chair of London’s Borough Cycling Officers Group and have served on the board of The Association of Bikeability Schemes. So you can see, I love best practice!
I have something of a portfolio career and can offer insights from some other industries, including journalism, performance (acting/musician), media and B2B sales.
Outside of work, I am a dad, I have an allotment (chutneys and jams), bake bread and I ride my bike(s) quite a lot. Well, I have to really, to work off all those calories.
