Partner Blog from Brightkidz - Bright Rabbits, Blogging Pupils and Better Odds Than the Lottery

It was great to meet so many of you at the annual conference this month. I hope those of you who visited the Brightkidz stand enjoyed having a chat and learning about some of our products and resources – not just the bright waistcoats and accessories you know us for - but also the new walking, cycling and scooting products we’ve added to our range.

Star attractions were the active travel/road safety themed books we now offer. Copies of ‘A Rabbit’s Tale’ by Modeshift’s very own Rob Bounds were for sale… with the chance to track him down and get your copy signed if you wanted! This charming book is about Rabbit learning from the other animals how to be bright. I’ll be using my copy for a school workshop I’m doing locally for Road Safety Week with help from our new toy bunny and some of Rob’s follow up activity ideas he has let us publish on our website.

At the time of writing I am on the train returning from the North West,Yorkshire and Humber Modeshift STARS School Travel Awards in Leeds. Congratulations to St Mary’s C of E Primary School in Beverley who were crowned regional winners today. It was also a good opportunity for me to talk to teachers and pupils to hear about the many clever ideas for active travel schemes they have put into practice. We will be featuring some in our own forthcoming blogs soon with a focus on showing how the ideas can be replicated in other schools... and already have a Year 6 pupil ready to provide our first of many pupil guest blogs.

Finally, whether you are new to the school travel sector or an experienced travel planner we are sure you will find our enewsletter useful. We are now doing two different versions – one for schools and one for local authorities. Features include teaching activities, events, products, links to our blogs, offers and initiatives as well as a prize draw competition - not massive prizes but low entrant numbers mean you have a MUCH better chance of winning than doing the lottery!
