Ross Butcher: Chair of Modeshift 2011-Present

Member of the board since 2008. Vice-chair 2009-2011.

Ross joined Transport for London in 2006 as a graduate transport planner and in 2007 completed a placement in the School Travel Plan team before joining the team (now the Education and Training team) permanently in 2008. Ross currently manages the Youth Engagement and Transition strand after managing the London STAR Accreditation scheme for five years.In 2009 Ross completed a Masters in Transport Planning Management as well as a dissertation on School Travel Advisors.

After joining the board in 2008, Ross became vice-chair in 2009 and took over as Chair in 2011. In 2012 Ross was invited to act as an external advisor to the European STARS project and he is now supporting the long term legacy plans in the partnering nine EU cities.

Prior to working in transport Ross has served as a director at a number of summer camps in the USA.

Heather has over 12 years experience working in sustainable school travel sector, initially as a Walking Bus Co-ordinator for Stoke on Trent City Council, then as School Travel Plan Co-ordinator and now as Travel Plan Co-ordinator for Telford & Wrekin Council within the Road Safety & Sustainable Transport Team. She is responsible for the development and monitoring of workplace and school travel plans and the promotion of sustainable transport initiatives and projects. She initially joined Modeshift as the Training Officer in 2004 before becoming Treasurer in 2006. Heather has a MSc in Environmental Pollution.

I joined the team at Sheffield as a School Travel Adviser back in 2004, helping Sheffield schools develop and implement their School Travel Plans. Now a Senior Transport Planner I manage all active and sustainable travel to school projects for Sheffield as well as some South Yorkshire wide initiatives. Some people may recognise me from my time as a Regional Adviser for the North West  (2006 -2011), where our 2 day training events with fancy dress and activities such as Duck herding were legendary!

Patrick has over 5 years experience working in the transportation industry for the private and public sector. He joined the Smarter Travel team at Haringey Council at the beginning of 2013 and works predominantly on projects to improve active travel in the borough. He is currently Modeshift Regional Representative for Greater London.

Rob joined Derbyshire County Council's road safety team in 2001 having previously worked as a primary school teacher and environmental education officer.

In 2004 he joined the council's school travel plan team where he continues to work to devise and promote the authority's Travel Smart initiative to encourage sustainable travel to school through curriculum and practical focussed activities, including the creation of campaign resources and the Scooter Smart programme

Steve joined Transport for Greater Manchester in 2011 as Greater Manchester Smarter Choices Officer. He has over 10 years’ experience in developing and implementing travel choices for the public and private sector. In 2001, he worked for Salford City Council as a Travel Plan coordinator and in 2008 joined the Greater Manchester Transportation Unit as Smarter Choices Officer for Greater Manchester. He undertook the role of Chair of Smarter Choices for the 10 districts of Greater Manchester, providing strategic and policy guidance on travel choices for Local Authorities, partners and stakeholders.

Steve joined Modeshift in 2012 and successfully increased membership levels in the North West region before switching roles and becoming Modeshift's second vice-chair in the summer of 2015

Polly Stebbens has been working as a School Travel Advisor in the Road Safety team at Brighton & Hove City Council for four years. Prior to that, she worked as a Road Safety Officer for nine years, also at Brighton & Hove, running the cycle training programme across the city. She is currently joint Modeshift Regional Representative for South East and East of England. Polly also has a PGCE and a BA degree in Architecture.

Nicky Batkin joined the London Borough of Ealing in February 2017, as Senior School Travel Advisor. Prior to this she worked at Buckinghamshire County Council for over 15 years, developing STPs and projects to support, promote and deliver sustainable travel initiatives at schools across the whole county. Her creativity and innovative thinking has helped to develop a number of initiatives and campaigns, including Go for Gold, Buck’s very successful, award winning, sustainable travel incentive scheme.

In November 2016 Nicky was presented with a Modeshift award for her Contribution to the National Sustainable Travel Awards.

Nicky joined the Management Board in September 2012, as Comms Officer, moving on to the post of Admin Officer in 2014.  She is responsible for managing the website and awards process, assisting with organisation of the annual convention and general admin for Modeshift and the Management Board.

Denise is the Smarter Travel Manager at Haringey Borough Council. She is responsible for marketing and communications across the Single Front Line service, management of the consultation function and the Smarter Travel Project (encouraging walking, cycling, using public transport, greener driving and road safety..

Dominque has over three years’ experience in the field of transport planning, building on academic knowledge gained through post graduate study in sustainable development. Dominique is using this theoretical knowledge and practical experience to play a key role in the delivery of Devon County Council’s Local Sustainable Transport Fund (LSTF) programme.

Dominique specialises in travel demand management and sustainable travel, and has built up significant experience and skills in a range of areas including: Personalised Travel Planning, Business Engagement, Development Planning, Marketing and Communications, Community Consultation and Infrastructure Design.

Jen Anders - North West Regional Representative 2015 - Present

Jen joined the Modeshift board in 2015 as regional representative for the North West.

Jen has been working in the environment and transport field since 2008 and joined Oldham Council in 2010, where she currently works in the Strategic Transport team. Her work mainly focuses on sustainable travel and delivering projects in partnership with Transport for Greater Manchester, schools and businesses.

Jen has a BA degree in Environmental Management.
